This man is my Grandfather, a Korean War vet who famously stated "Uijeongbu (the town where I used to work, where he was previously stationed)!? That dump is a speed bump on the way to the DMZ!" when I told him I was moving to Korea. None the less, he told me I should go, if that's what I really wanted.

He is my hero. And I am so embarrassed that I can't be in Denver right now, when he is struggling with pneumonia in the hospital...

  1. Very touching. Hope he heals well.

  2. Maddie, you will be happy to hear that they did the biopsy on the blockage they removed from his lung and it is NEGATIVE for cancer. In fact, the blockage had vegetable matter in it (!), which of course indicates he aspirated some food a few months back and it lodged in one of his major airways. GOOD NEWS! He is slowly recovering and will likely leave the hosptal for a recovery facility for a few days before hopefully coming home. Thanks for thinking of him--he asks about you!

    Love, Dad and Mom

  3. And P.S. he's our hero too.

  4. beautiful picture. your grandfather sounds like an amazing man!

wow. ive been reading your blog and you seem like a really cool person. I'm glad you are having fun in korea.

it sounds like you have had quite the adventure. I am new to korea and am looking for some cool people to hangout with since I've been having a hard time making friends since my school is small and my co teachers are much older. there is one young person but she's got a korean bf so she never seems to want to hangout. anyway, just trying to make new friends. I don't have a blog just fb so if I don't seem to much of a freak to you please shoot me an email on fb or whatever. itd be nice to talk to someone who lives here and is friendly and open minded.
